About Barbara Hogema
Trained in fashion and textile design, Barbara Hogema’s fascination with wool began in her parents’ fashion store, where she was surrounded by fabrics, texture and craftsmanship from an early age.
Her wool-based artworks explore the depth and softness of the material, layers of felted fibres that capture light, shadow and stillness. Each piece invites a sense of calm through subtle relief and texture, revealing the warmth and depth inherent in natural wool.
Today her practice extends beyond textiles into sculptural objects and wall pieces that unite wool, linen and ceramics. Each work explores the dialogue between softness and structure, light and stillness.
Woolthing remains an essential part of her work, a collection of hand-crafted lighting pieces, often crocheted from wool, where material, form and light find a quiet harmony.
